Following the debut of the 2023 Tata Nexon EV facelift, the company has plans to introduce the all-new Tata Punch EV, before the end of October. The 2023 Punch EV will be strategically positioned between the Tiago EV and Nexon EV in Tata Motor’s electric vehicle lineup.


Much like other Tata EVs, the Punch EV will maintain a familiar exterior design in line with its conventionally powered counterpart. The distinctive split headlamp unit upfront, drawing inspiration from the brand’s larger SUVs, will remain a key feature. The LED daytime running lights (DRLs) positioned at both ends will gracefully complement the humanity line, featuring a sleek chrome finish.

Some EV-specific modifications include the introduction of new nameplate badges, including the distinctive ZipTron moniker on the tailgate and the incorporation of blue highlights around the car, further solidifying the Punch’s electric credentials.


According to recent spy images, the Tata Punch EV is observed with a front charging socket, a departure from the side placement seen in the current electric lineup. This marks the debut of a front bumper charging slot in Tata’s EV offerings, potentially indicating a shift in design approach for all their upcoming electric vehicles.


Tata’s upcoming Punch EV is slated to be built on the ALFA platform, integrating the company’s second-generation EV architecture. This platform signifies a substantial evolution, essentially re-engineering internal combustion engine (ICE) designs into electric vehicles (EVs) through significant adaptations. Notably, it will incorporate a liquid-cooled battery system and employ a front-wheel-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor to drive the vehicle. For context, the original platforms of the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV were modified to accommodate the battery pack and other critical electric components.

Furthermore, much like the approach taken with the Tigor, Tiago, and Nexon EVs, Tata Cars is expected to offer the Punch EV with two distinct battery sizes and charging options. However, what sets the electrified Punch apart from the Nexon EV and Tigor EV will be its utilization of the EV-specific Sigma architecture. This represents a tailored adaptation of the ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible & Advanced) platform, which serves as the foundation for the conventional petrol-powered Punch and Altroz models.


The upcoming Punch EV is expected to retain the same set of features found in its conventional ICE counterpart. Furthermore, there might be some fresh additions, such as an upgraded 10.25-inch infotainment system that is supposed to replace the current 7-inch unit. Additionally, the inclusion of a new two-spoke steering wheel is also a possibility.
